The remodelling opens up the interior spaces to create informal areas for learning/interaction together with the retention of a small number of cellular offices.

Minor structural changes to the interior of the building were required to facilitate the installation of a platform lift and repositioning of internal walls. The gross external area of the existing building is approximately 230 sq.m. which remain unchanged.

The proposed external treatment of Kirkby Lodge promotes a contemporary language which reflects the sustainable aspirations of the project. The works comprised a living green wall together with recladding of the existing first floor hanging slates with cedar boarding and general external redecoration. Photovoltaic cells are used to the flat roof areas above Portland Mews and between the dormer windows at first floor with additional rooflights to the pitched roof to the east elevation.
