Mount Kelly Swimming Pool

This project is for a new pool for Mount Kelly to improve their commitment to training for young swimmers to reach an International Standard and provide a fantastic facility for the people of Tavistock.
With the 2012 London Olympics an opportunity arose for the School to bid for one of the demountable training pools erected temporarily for the period of the Games. Mount Kelly were successful in their bid, partly due to their excellent record of Swimming Training at the School and their superb Coaching program. The challenge for the whole design team of Architects, Civil Structural Engineers and Mechanical Engineers was to find a solution that would meet the strict budget restraints but still provide an excellent facility that would meet the high Sport England Standards.

The end result is a building that fits well into its environment and works as a machine that creates a comfortable and workable training environment. The pool design meets the strict international sports design standards for swimming competition with the 8 lanes all 50metre long with starting blocks and timing equipment ready to be fitted. The siting of the pool facility allows for a training pool that can be used by all the other Schools in the area and the community of Tavistock.
